Students Build for Better Financial Futures at the 10th LTS FinTech Hackathon

Over two months during the FinTech module, students explored financial concepts alongside app design, user experience and web security. Naturally, one question kept coming up in class: what would they have to build for their final project?
The FinTech Hackathon is a 3 day event that takes place at the end of the module. The focus of this year was on helping young people manage their financial lives safely while creating opportunities for their money to grow.
On Friday, students formed teams and selected the core ideas behind their projects. Saturday was dedicated to transforming those ideas into apps or websites. By Sunday afternoon, they were ready to pitch their solutions to a jury of experts: Julien Perera of Banque de Luxembourg; Alex Panican of the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT); Dr Sergio Coronado of Luxembourg Tech School; Galina Miroshnichenko of ABBL; and Claude Marx of the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF).
Most student teams came up with ideas that support young people in achieving financial independence, such as: a banking feature that helps teenagers find small jobs in their neighbourhood; a gamified savings tool that helps young people understand how to manage their money; a financial-literacy platform where beginners can practise investing without risking real money.
The winning teams were Quick Earn, Smart Allowance, Cortex and MOIEN.
AI assistants, personalised guidance and gamified financial education were already at the centre of student projects during the first editions of the LTS FinTech Hackathon. What seemed futuristic back then is now part of everyday life. As technology continues to evolve, LTS remains committed to helping students understand technology and inspiring them to use it thoughtfully and for the benefit of others.
This year, the Coach of the Year title was awarded to Justin Vinandy. He guided Level 1 students through all three modules and supported those participating in the Astro Pi Mission Space Lab project.
We thank all the students, LTS Coaches, mentors and jury members who joined the event, as well as Fondation ABBL pour l’Éducation Financière, the LHoFT and all LTS sponsors for their continued support.
